Life is amazing….except when it isn’t =) However, we can be at choice in every moment to be happy. Yes, you actually can feel grief, fear, frustration AND still be in joy. I received an invitation from a good friend about 6 months ago to actively seek out joy. My initial response was “ I don’t always have time to go and do things that make me happy”. She then clarified her invitation and her answer has been life changing…She told me that seeking joy can be as simple as intentionally remembering happy times. Reminding me that joy is around me always, I just have to reach out for it.
So, one of the things I have done is create a “Giddy List”—things I have done, experienced and can do that bring an instant smile to my face. If I can actually do something on the list, I do it. If not, recalling something from the list works just as well. So without further delay….my Giddy List (This is the abridged version. The complete version fills several pages):
Thinking about:
Fun memories in general
Roller-skating as a kid
My hubby speaking in his Yoda voice
How my friend Karen smiles. She has one of the most amazing smiles I have ever seen.
My kids when they were wee little tots
Hearing my friends Jen and Tabby laugh…they have such joyful, infectious laughter
Anything on the list below
Things I do:
DANCING!
Munching on a raw red bell pepper
Playing a kazoo
Driving fast on a warm summer night with the windows down and the music loud
Squealing
Being with my children
Blowing Bubbles
Listening to lively fiddle music…especially Irish fiddle
Watching my kids perform...one is a Slam Poet, one is a singer, one is a musician
Creating Lime Giddy Products
So…what makes YOU giddy?
